Last night after dinner we were sitting around the table talking. There were several family members from different generations at the table. My mother-in-law was lamenting for her friends who have separated after 26 years of marriage. “Such a shame” she said with true sadness for her friends. “But not surprising” she added.
I glanced at her, my expression asking for more explanation.
“This couple have avoided their issues for too long, they just haven’t talked about the things that weren’t working. So in the end it was ‘take a break or bust’, I think” she explained. “We’re all praying for them as a home group, believing they will come back together and be stronger as a result of this trial.”
I sat back in my chair with a good spoonful of reality leaving an unpleasant taste in my mouth. Sometimes you have to face the hard things in life to be able to enjoy the good things life has to offer.
When God calls us to walk in partnership with someone in marriage for a lifetime He always has good things in mind for us. Why is it then that our reality doesn’t always measure up to these “good things”?! True, life is a journey that involves many seasons; some seasons feel cold and chilly while others feel warm and embracing. But how do we do our best to make this marriage journey with our life partner the best it can be?
The answer – you work on making it better every chance you get.
Your Marriage – Good to Great is a series of sessions that will provide you the opportunity to discuss aspects of your relationship with your spouse. We’ll make sure we do this in a relaxed way so that we all have fun, but you’ll be the one who determines how much value you get out of this series. What you put in will determine what you get out.
** WORKSHOP HAS FINISHED **
This is a fantastic opportunity to take time as a lifegroup to walk through the series together. This will then provide a fantastic platform from which you can “check in” on each other and each marriage and make sure support is provided to your lifegroup members. We’re hoping this uncovers some things that need to be addressed – and your lifegroup is a great place to address any issues in love and safety.
If you have any questions regarding this series or would like some personal support, please email our church office.
