Did you ever wonder why Jesus created the church to be dependant on each other?
The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ. Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptised into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit.
(1 Corinthians 12: 12-13)
We are different and yet we are joined together by Jesus and called “His Church”. We are bound together by His design for His purposes. And this includes being dependant on each other.
Yes, the body has many different parts, not just one part. If the foot says, “I am not a part of the body because I am not a hand,” that does not make it any less a part of the body. And if the ear says, “I am not part of the body because I am not an eye,” would that make it any less a part of the body? If the whole body were an eye, how would you hear? Or if your whole body were an ear, how would you smell anything?.
(1 Corinthians 12: 14-17)
There have been many changes and shifts lately in our church family and this means there are some functions that were done by others that are no longer being done. The good news is that this is no surprise to the Lord and He is working with grace and love to install others into gaps. Maybe that’s you?
In speaking about this recently with a candidate for our Administrator vacancy, I described my view this way: I see the downside of having church staff is that most other people leave the “work of church” to a few… but I believe as staff we are enablers of all who are called to serve…. which is ALL of us!
None of us are the same in design or preference, and yet Jesus calls us to live with each other. Actually, it might be more helpful if I said that Jesus has called us to die with each other.
Jesus said, “whoever loses their life for me will find it.”
(Mark 8: 35)
We all have a part to play in the life of ZION.
The point is, we are all gifted by Jesus to serve the mission of Jesus. The church organisation is not designed to be effective only because of the staff we have, instead as the active members of the body function the way they are designed toIf you know anyone who is a skilled and experienced administrator then please have them check out the job advertisement on Trade Me.
How will you serve the church in 2021?
Blessings,
Phil
