There’s a sense in the air that we are on the precipice of another move of God that will sweep us up into a greater experience of His love and power. This is what God has promised us and He is faithful to His promises!
‘Where is this promise?’ I hear you ask, and well you should. There are countless promises of God pouring out His Spirit on his people, but let’s just focus on one passage for this moment.
“And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh.” (Joel 2:28a)
The second chapter of the book of Joel is well worth your time and contemplation. It’s full of promises that I love to read and dream about seeing. Here’s a few:
- The Lord will be zealous for His land and pity His people. The Lord will answer and say to His people, “Behold, I will send you grain and new wine and oil, and you will be satisfied by them; I will no longer make you a reproach among the nations. (v 18 & 19)
- The threshing floors shall be full of wheat, and the vats shall overflow with new wine and oil. (v 24)
- I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten. (v 25)
- Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions. (v 28b)
- And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. (v 32)
These promises were given to God’s people to warn them of what was to come and to give them hope for their future. I believe these promises are for us today, and King Solomon agrees;
What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. Is there anything of which one can say, “Look! This is something new”? It was here already, long ago; it was here before our time. (Eccl. 1:9-10)
So go back and read Joel chapter 2 again. Talk about a rich treasury of promises for us to behold! I encourage you to seek the Lord this week and ask Him to give you the strength and faith to believe you will see these promises come to light in the near future. That’s what I am doing!
As I spend time with the Lord remembering the good things He has done in the past, it gives me an appetite for more today. I want to see the gift of the Spirit accompanied by powerful signs – God stated that He will display wonders and I want to see it again.
In the same way Joel was affirming God’s promise over God’s people, Jeremiah was a prophetic voice in his time that was tasked with doing the same. He adds a little wisdom we would do well to apprehend.
And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. (Jer 29:13)
Let us each come before God with a desperation for more.
