God is Constant

God is Constant

Jesus Christ IS the same yesterday and today and forever.” Hebrews 13:8 (ESV)

I am privileged to be sitting in a picture window overlooking an estuary and watching the changing sea scape as the tide rises and falls. When the tide is high the boat directly in front of me floats proudly, even bobbing a wee bit up and down, but when the tide is low, it sits slumped on one side on the flat mud of the seabed, looking dejected and not at its best.

The only “constant” in that, is that things are always changing.

Whether we thrive on change or deliberately avoid it, there is no denying our world has shifted over the past two- and a-bit years.

there is no denying our world has shifted over the past two- and a-bit years.

With cancelled plans and new routines, to widespread restrictions and national upheaval, life has changed for us all.

Adding into the changes wrought by a pandemic, I moved “house”, recently. Moving, is right “up there” on the list of things that create stress, and anxiety. One of my favourite authors, Leeana Tankersley, explains why:

“When you move, social scaffolding – time spent with neighbours, outings with friends, certain weekly rhythms – disappears. When the scaffolding is removed from your life…… the things that were creating structure and direction are also removed. It’s scary because you begin to see these things that provided clarity, context, rhythm and substance for your life, are now gone”. (Hope Anyway)

Life for me has changed. Currently it is disorientating and muddled as I search for a new fit and establish a new rhythm.

The good news is…. amidst all this CHANGE there is a CONSTANT = GOD.

amidst all this CHANGE there is a CONSTANT = GOD.

God’s character is unchanging no matter what is going on around us. He is reliable. He is a refuge, and we can count on Him every moment of the day.

God’s character is unchanging

Malachi 3:6 God Himself explains, “For I the Lord do not change…”

He doesn’t distance Himself from us in a pandemic or abandon us when we change address. His feelings about us aren’t tied to wavering emotions, and His faithfulness doesn’t depend on the latest headlines.

His grace is infinite, His forgiveness unending and His compassion complete.

While the whole world changes, or your personal world changes, God is steadfast. Put your faith in Him. That means trusting Someone who embodies goodness and knows your every need. It means you can move into days ahead with purpose, secure in the fact that God is there for you. He is your solid foundation. He is unswayed by change.

“I am the Alpha and the Omega” says the Lord God, “who IS and who WAS and who IS TO COME, the Almighty” Revelation 1:8.
