Letting Jesus take the Wheel

Lately with the weather changing and with a lot more rain, I realised I don’t have very good window wipers on my car. This is where I’m grateful to have a husband who’s very knowledgeable with cars.

So after a few weeks of asking Kelan finally popped into his dad’s work and picked up some window wipers for my car. This was on an afternoon right before we left for Auckland. Kelan was changing them and realised for some reason my car has two different window wipers so he could only do one side. Thankfully it was the drivers side otherwise it wouldn’t have been safe to take to my car.

On the drive to Auckland, there was some quite heavy rain and my brother and his fiancé were in the back, so could see out of both sides of window wipers, and were quite shocked about how bad the passenger side was. I also just found out I don’t have very good eyesight so I’m really not sure how I was surviving.

I joked with them that I was driving by faith and that God was guiding my driving. It was a passaway comment made as a joke, but as I thought about it further the next day I realised how true that statement should be. Not necessarily when driving or specifically not when driving without proper window wipers, but more in a general sense of life.

Our life with Jesus needs to be a continuous submission of letting Jesus take the wheel. It’s a daily struggle, but I think it becomes a bigger struggle when we face the big, tough decisions in life. I know I went through a season of that last year where I had a very tight grip on the steering wheel of life. I had an end goal in mind and thought that’s where God was taking me, but I felt that things weren’t going my way, then as soon as I let go and let Jesus take charge, the doors opened and my prayers were answered. And that doesn’t mean it’s not stressful or I don’t worry, it just means we can know Jesus has us and He has a plan. An old faithful verse that can help us to remember this is the typical one Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Verses 12-13 continue and says: “Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

Jesus reminds us that He has a plan for us, a good plan even, and all we need to do is trust Him, or give Him the wheel. We can call on Him, seek Him, pray to Him and we will find Him and His peace that comes with that. He gives us the relationship and spirit because He knows we’re human and struggle to let things go and for that I’m extremely grateful.

So let this be a reminder to you, let Jesus take the wheel in all areas of your life.
