sanctify

Which group are you in?

I’ve been spending a lot of time lately in the book of Joshua.  Actually, I’ve been spending a lot of time at the beginning of Joshua.  To be honest, I’ve been spending most of that time in Joshua chapter 3.  It’s full of good news for us as we wait on the Lord for His mighty hand to deliver us into our promise.

In this story you can see there are several groups of people active.  Joshua is the newly appointed leader and he’s hearing from God, activating his leaders and priests and giving directions.  There are a bunch of priests who are actively preparing themselves to carry the ark of God’s Presence before the people.  The leaders are communicating with their tribes to ensure everyone knows what God is saying.

And then there’s the rest.  They have been sitting in the Acacia groves waiting for someone to tell them what to do.  Not actively waiting, just killing time hoping this time in limbo isn’t permanent.

Which group are you in?

Which group are you in?  Which group would best reflect your activity this past few weeks?Are you spending time in God’s Presence?  Are you hearing what God is saying?  Are you encouraging others?  Or are you sitting in Shittim among the trees?

Regardless of which group you’re in, the word of the Lord is the same for everyone.

“Purify yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do great wonders among you.”

Joshua 3:5

This is a time we must purify ourselves.  Other words to describe this could be;

  • sanctify,
  • renew
  • set apart
  • or a word I introduced you to recently, whakatapua.

Make the most of this time.  Do not neglect your opportunity to spend time with your Lord in whatever way suits you.  For some it will be study of the Bible, for others it will be worship.  Many people see God creatively and others in creation.  I urge you to discover your pathway to God and to get on it.

Come before Him, He desires to spend time with you.
