Your Words

Do you think about the words you speak? What affect they have on your situation or even on the relationship with the person you are speaking to?

It is said that our words are 7% of our communication, tone is 38% and body language is 55%. If this is true you would think it doesn’t really matter what we actually say with words but more important that our body is saying something contrary to our mouths!

Perhaps you have a common little phrase you continually add to your sentences like: “Yeah, I’ll believe it when I see it!” Or “Huh, Some hope!”
Do you think this phrase (and many others) has any effect on your situation or your belief for the outcome of what you are talking about?

Pastor Phil wrote an article in January for the TA News on 28/01/21. The title was: ‘You walk where you look’. One sentence stuck out to me “Everything I hear or say must be measured against the Word of God” (Matthew 12:33) “Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit” I asked myself “Is this how I live? Is this how you live??”

That same passage goes on to say in Matthew 12:34-37

“You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned. Our mouths speak what the heart is full of. We will give an account of every empty word (or careless word – NASB) and we are both acquitted and condemned by our words.”

James likes to talk about our mouths too. James 3:6 says:

“The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.”

Corrupts the whole body!!! Eeeoooowwwwww!!!!!

This does not seem to match up with the analysis I gave at the top where 7% of the message is the words. According to God’s word our mouths speak what is in our hearts and the tongue corrupts the whole body and has huge consequences.

Perhaps our words are stopping us from receiving what God has for us? Let us all think about the words we use.  It could be that our negative words are cancelling out the promises of God in our lives.
